Attorney Sharon Maynard has presented a workshop for those interested in Social Security Disability and contributed to the newsletter for the MS Society. A decision is expected in a few months. Under the Compassionate Allowance Initiative, SSA considers certain conditions as serious enough to expedite a claimant's claim, and allow benefits. Alzheimer's disease is now one of those conditions that Commissioner Astrue with SSA will consider.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and terminal illness. Due to the terminal nature of Alzheimer's disease, and the profound affect on one's ability to work with this condition, placement of this impairment on the Compassionate Allowance Initiative will help these claimants expedite their request for SS disability benefits.

from the National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives August, 2009 Newsletter
